Charlene Soraia- Wherever You Will Go

Have you heard the stunning voice of Charlene Soraia yet? Currently number 6 in the iTunes top 10 downloads chart with her new cover of “Wherever you will go” by The Calling, She has shocked critics with her new found success.

Supporting Twinings’ fabulous new campaign, ‘Twinings Gets You Back To You’, includes their brand new TV advert (have you seen it during X Factor or Downton Abbey?), It features the outstanding voice of Charlene Soraia, with ‘Wherever You Will Go’. Why not download it now for 99p from the iTunes store, along with another one of her beautiful tracks? ‘Lightyears’. It’s a must buy for anyone who loves a powerful and emotional ballad.

Unusually, however, her recent cover is quite unlike her unique and tasteful songs, which she plays with her guitar. You might have already heard her, as her single “Daffodils” was the “iTunes free single of the week” a few years back.

Born in Sydenham to hardcore, ‘hippy’ parents, Charlene plucked her first note on the guitar at the innocent and impressionable age of just 5. Despite the guitar belonging to her Dad, she secretly played away at her heart’s content until the strings broke. She didn’t own up. But by then she was in love with her newfound instrument and her Dad knew it. So he bought her a guitar of her own and Charlene spent countless hours teaching herself to play; and she was good. So good, in fact, that she performed in public for the first time aged just 8 years old. But by the age of 10, her lifelong ambition was to become a luthier if her music career failed. Finally, after a few years practice she rebuilt a 1973 Japanese 335 guitar aged only 17.

Her captivating voice lead her to a place at the Brit school, where her peers were Adele, ROX and Kate Nash. But she’s not the usual singer songwriter. Far from it, infact. Her love for David Bowie and the likes of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and King Crimson led to her encyclopaedic knowledge and deep love of Progressive Rock.

Since then, her talents have soared. She is with the management label “Northern Lights”, and has released 2 singles, performed at the iTunes festival in 2008, featured in many Brit Award albums and is due to release her new album in the upcoming New Year.

If you like what you hear, I recommend her unbelievable songs “Bike” and “Postcards from IO”. And yes, her voice is high.

Ellie.
